just breathe

When I was little, sometime in middle school, my mom and I watched Ever After...A Cinderella Story.  I fell in love with the movie and I think my mom secretly enjoyed it as well.  During one point of the movie she is standing at the top of stairs and says "Just breathe," right before she enters the ball.  For unknown reasons it has stuck with my mom and me.  In stressful and/or anxiety ridden situations my mom used to tell me this.  Thinking about the act of breathing does bring an element of calmness and slight clarity. Today, I needed it.

The day began with my little girl just not feeling well.  All you mothers know, if the baby is not feeling well the day is going to be a bit rough... I understand, the poor girl doesn't know why she feels bad, I can't simply explain "you have a fever Madison so please increase your fluids, try resting a bit more and maybe avoid trying to climb into your baby's stroller today."  I wish.  Lots of Tylenol, TLC and extra kisses from the bear and mommy were provided.

Falling asleep at snack time.  Poor baby.

I have also been wearing my glasses.  They are cute but I much prefer contacts.  Not only do glasses

1.) Fall down
2.) Constrict my view
3.) Are no longer the right strength
4.) Annoy me
5.) Give me a headache

they also limit my face to face cuddle time with Madison.  Ugh.  Lesson learned...Don't wait until your very last contacts to make a follow up apt and never depend that the last pair of contacts will last forever; never, ever getting scratched and unwearable.  Got it.

I make my apt to the cheapest, first available office and arrive promptly at 5:20 for my 5:30 apt., smiling, skipping, giddy to finally after 3 LONG days of wearing glasses get a pair of contacts and my script in.  Then it hits....

"I'm sorry Mam but you must have called a different location because we don't even have a doctor here."

"What?"

"Yes, I am so sorry.  We have no one here to help you?"

Just Breathe, Just Breathe, Just Breathe

Yes, it took alot to find an office (8 calls) that is open after Ben gets off of work and yes this office did not cost an arm and leg which worked perfect with the budget and of course the wind is about 60 mph with temps in the 30's.

Yes I am Just Breathing right now....

"Thank you"  As I walk out the door in tears.... I blame it on the hormones and not my irrational self.

When I get home, my poor baby is curled up in Daddy's arms with a temp of 101 and as I lay her down for bed our other little bundle gives his/her first kick.

Now I am breathing, realizing there are many wonderful things in ours lives and there are just times you have to exhale.  Not everything is going to go per plan (believe me it did not today) but life with go on....

Just breathe.....

I remember "breathe" so well and to this day still say it to two very special girls - now three as she gets older. I always forgot about the "exhale" part - surprised you lived :-)
