blessington farms

We have a near by strawberry, blueberry and blackberry farm, approximately 20-25 minutes away.  I could not wait to try it out!  The Saturday before Easter the farm had arranged an Easter Egg Hunt with prizes.  Madison loved picking them up for about 2 minutes, quickly realizing that there was not candy in these eggs.  We had to coax her into even keeping the ones in her basket.  Train rides, giant slides, petting zoo were just a few of the fun activities along with picking strawberries the farm had to offer.

Funny story time.

Madison loves animals but really loves them from afar.  We went into the petting zoo area and watched the chickens {grandma opted out of this activity, she says the living animals are just not her thing, lol}.  Madison was actually petting one when another started clucking and flapping its wings.  Madison jumped back and almost fell over because the sound and movement had startled her completely.  She looked at me with fear in her eyes needing reassurance.  She decided no more chickens and a nap sounded much better than the clucking that was happening in the area.

I also enjoyed standing in line FOREVER for my newly picked strawberries to be weighed while the Texas hot sun beamed down on my unsunscreened arms.  Yes, the children were well taken care of but by the time I reach myself I say forget it.  I truly loathe putting sunscreen on, always have.   Luckily no one was burned and I even got just a little tan {slight redness} to my arms.
