Our anniversary was going to be 'just another day' even though I swore that would never happen. Unfortunately, moving to this new town and having an incredibly hard time asking for favors, I just decided we would order some pizza and have a picnic at the nearby park. The situation wasn't ideal but a good compromise, until.....
My wonderful neighbor Lynn volunteered to come over and watch the kids.
At first, my typical response is, "Oh, no that's fine, its not a big deal." I mean, I have said that numerous times. But before responding I thought twice. I should open my heart to genuine people, genuinely wanting to help...and I said "Really?"
I was thrilled! Ben had no idea that I had arranged Lynn to come over. I just strongly encouraged him to leave on time. When he got home I was practically crawling out of my skin (I am really bad at keeping secrets) and yelled (yep, really) "WE HAVE A DATE NIGHT!!!!"
He sort of laughed (probably thinking I am a bit crazy) and said "huh?"
I explained that we would put the kids down and Lynn was coming over right at 7, while the kids slept. She lives right next door so the commute wasn't too bad.
Ben and I drove to Taste of Texas and enjoyed an 1.5 hour wait! HAHA! Yes! Lynn and I had spoke, both agreeing, the date is on a Monday, not a busy night, most likely no reservation should be needed. That was until the Petroleum Convention decided Monday was a good night to go to Taste of Texas as well. I texted Lynn, who is so sweet, and she said to not worry and enjoy.
The extra time was really nice. We sat and talked outside with our free drinks and chips/cheese appetizers. A longhorn was even there for the convention. We got our free picture with that beast! Holy Huge! Because we were celebrating our Anniversary we also enjoyed a free dessert. The meal was fabulous, mouth watering, finger licking good. {Don't I sound so Southern}. We enjoyed sirloin steaks and a gorgeous, plentiful salad bar (which sounds corny but imagine it at a $50/plate restaurant). Gigantic blocks of cheese and every vegetable, type of lettuce, fruit you can imagine. The steak was like butter. You barely needed a knife and it melted in your mouth. Delicious!!!
Our night was one of my favorite Anniversary nights we have had. I appreciated the evening a bit more because we no longer having the luxury of our favorite babysitter Pia.
Ben and I have had an amazing life, creating this beautiful family on top of a wonderful, solid foundation of love. Babe, you make me smile and laugh every day. You are my forever....xoxox
Once again.......
Thank you Lynn!!!!!
P.S. I loved my thank you gift to Lynn. I bought a mini tin bucket, put cotton balls in the bottom then added everything from the base coat to a nail file. She could give her self a mani/pedi while hanging out at our house.
